Our suggestions for escapades

Walking

L’Ostal is situated on the GR67 – Chemin Urbain V, which runs from Mende in Lozère to Avignon in the Vaucluse. Saint Hilaire d’Ozilhan is the stage between Uzès and Avignon. You can therefore follow this GR from the house, which will take you to the Pont du Gard via Castillon du Gard (L’Ostal – Pont du Gard: 12km).

From the house, you can explore the built heritage of our village, La Clastre or St Etienne chapel, listed as a historic monument, the wash-house with its cylindrical basins, the Castellas (ancient castle of which some ruins remain) from which you have a beautiful view of the village, the plain and the Pont du Gard. You’ll walk along scrubland paths bordered by vineyards and olive groves.

Biking

L’Ostal has been awarded the “Accueil Vélo” label, and we have a room where your mounts can sleep in safety. We can provide you with maps and other tourist information on cycling routes, cycle loops, greenways, etc. The house is just a few kilometres from the greenway linking Uzès to Beaucaire.

If you are travelling, we can offer you dinner at our table or reserve a restaurant close to the house for you.

If you don’t have your own bike but are keen to explore our roads on 2 wheels, you can find our partners in the Practical Information section.

By car

There are two places not to be missed if you are with us for an evening stopover: the Pont du Gard, 5km away, and Uzès, 15km away.

And if you’ve chosen to stay at L’Ostal for several days, here are a few examples of how you can get away from it all

The Pont du Gard: you can limit yourself to visiting the bridge, but if you have the time, you’ll discover a site rich in heritage and culture. Visit the museum, which tells the story of the bridge and its construction, and the temporary exhibitions. Discover the natural site by following the “History of the Garrigues” educational trail. Take a guided tour to the top floor of the bridge.
Throughout the year, the Pont du Gard offers daytime and evening events, so don’t hesitate to consult their programme.

Uzès: the town offers a range of events throughout the year, so don’t hesitate to check their diary. There are two markets throughout the year, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Stroll through the cobbled streets of this superb town of Art and History, with its magnificent houses, good restaurants and beautiful shops. Then head off into the Eure valley (on foot along the signposted paths or by car) to discover the Eure and Alzon rivers, the remains of the aqueduct and the exact spot where the water was drawn from to supply the aqueduct. The site is very beautiful and well shaded, making it a pleasant place to stroll along the water’s edge in the shade of the plane trees.

If you’re a lover of stone and beautiful old buildings, why not explore the villages of Saint Hilaire d’Ozilhan, Castillon du Gard (3km away), Vers Pont du Gard (5km away), Saint Maximin and Saint Siffret (10km away).

Do you enjoy walking in unspoilt natural surroundings? The Gardon gorges are just a few kilometres from L’Ostal. You can discover it on foot or by canoe from the village of Collias. You’ll find our partners in the Practical Information section.
